A provider can be excellent at preparing inventory for Amazon and still be the wrong partner for wholesale retail.
Amazon preparation tends to focus on getting individual units and inbound shipments compliant with Amazon’s receiving requirements. Retail fulfillment can require a different operating stack: purchase-order management, EDI, ASNs, retailer-specific carton labels, routing guides, case-pack rules, pallet configuration, appointment scheduling, BOL documentation, and chargeback investigation.
DTC adds another set of requirements.
That means the question is not, “Can this warehouse ship our product?”
It is, “Which channels can this warehouse execute accurately without creating a manual workaround every time we grow?”
For an Amazon-native brand entering retail, test the 3PL before the first large PO. Give the operator a sample retailer routing guide and ask them to explain exactly how they would process the order from PO receipt through shipment confirmation.
Their answer will tell you more than the rate card.
Pressure-test it before the buyer does. A Channel Checkride Retail Readiness Review looks at your economics, assortment, and launch plan through the buyer's chair and the operator's chair. Request a Retail Readiness Review.
